WEIGHT STUDY FEED TO FAIL By Cecil Seaman & Co., LLC Data contains: 44310 horses - majority measure at auction 23,119 colts (52.2%) - 21,191 fillies (47.8%) 91% yearlings and 9% two year olds Crops of 1970 through 2001 Weight percents were calculated from measurements when horses were physically measured as a yearling or two year old. Horses measurements are run against a growth curve from Dr. Tyznik of Ohio State to project what they are going to look like when full grown. Weights were calculated with a formula used by Texas A&M and other major Universities in their weight studies. The ideal weight percent is based off a study done by Cecil Seaman in 1993 by measuring 51 horses within three weeks of winning a Grade 1 race. After evaluating these Grade 1 winners and their weights a scale was established for ideal racing weight. Horses were grouped in study by weight percentage. Starts, Wins, Earnings are tabulated at 2,3,4 and lifetime basis as well as life Stakes & Graded Stakes wins.
