Yearling Optimum Weight Analysis

Does fat cover flaws in yearlings?

31% of yearlings that go through the sales ring are obese - 120 pounds or more over their ideal weight. Weight is a critical factor to consider when purchasing a yearling.

We conducted a study on 10,000 yearlings, 49% of which went through the summer sales in Kentucky and New York. We found that any excess weight a yearling carries can have a lasting and profound effect on its future racing performance (see "Fit vs. Fat," Thoroughbred Times, July 9, 1993, pp. 16-17) [715Kb - Adobe Acrobat Reader required].

Our comprehensive database helps us to determine if a yearling is carrying the proper weight for his physical proportions. Yearling Optimum Weight Analysis is just one of the services included in our SALES REPRESENTATION.

Racehorse Weight Analysis

Is your racehorse handicapped by an extra 100 pounds?

The racing capability and soundness of a Thoroughbred are greatly reduced by excess weight. From years of racehorse analysis, we have determined the appropriate weight range for various sizes of horses. Our RACEHORSE WEIGHT ANALYSIS contains the horse's current weight, the horse's ideal weight, and the percentage of weight to gain or lose.

This weight maintenance program is checked with a heart girth measurement, the information is then put into our computer which generates the program. The scheduled evaluations of the horse will tell the trainer when the horse is near its ideal weight.

Measuring Success

We purchased COLCON as agent for Andreas Putsch from the Elmendorf Dispersal Sale (see how we can work for you - SALES REPRESENTATION). Until that time, she had earned a modest $78,000 in 9 starts. A RACEHORSE WEIGHT ANALYSIS revealed that she was close to 100 pounds overweight so she was put on a strict, closely monitored diet. After 15 additional starts, she became a multiple graded stakes winner of over $620,000!
