Select Sales feature yearlings of impeccable pedigree and conformation. These horses have many of the requisites for being elite racing and breeding stock. Still, most of them never fulfill their promise. As the chart indicates, the Keeneland July yearlings from 1990-94 earned an average of less than 30% of their purchase price on the racetrack. And their median earnings were less than 15% of their median cost. More significantly, the 15 top (colts and fillies) Summer Sale yearlings from 1985-95 earned an average of less than 10% of their purchase price.
Why resort to the "breed the best to the best and hope for the best" philosophy, when you can utilize proven genetic and bio-mechanical analysis that drastically improves your chances of buying an elite racehorse and producer?

A.P. INDY winning the Breeders' Cup Classic

With the stakes so high and so many disappointments out there, the GDT Report is an indispensable tool for buyers. It separates winners from losers. And it helped produce and identify one of the biggest winners ever. Cecil Seaman & Co., LLC recommended the 1988 mating of SEATTLE SLEW to WEEKEND SURPRISE. The resulting yearling earned a highly favorable evaluation from us and sold for $2.9 million in the Keeneland July Sale. But his success didn't end at the sales. On the racetrack, he earned $2,979,815 - the highest-priced yearling ever to earn back his purchase price on the race track! And the same genetic and bio-mechanical advantages that helped make A.P. INDY a success in the sales ring and on the racetrack have distinguished him in the breeding shed as well. He stands for a $300,000 live foal stud fee, thus fulfilling his promise and becoming one of the most complete success stories in the history of thoroughbred racing and breeding.
What can a GDT Report reveal that a catalog page can't?
We analyzed all 216 horses entered in the Keeneland 1999 July Selected Yearling Sale. Even among this exclusvie group, our bio-mechanical research revealed significant genetic inconsistencies in over 1/4 of the entrants. We saved our clients' time and money by helping them to focus on yearlings that are prime candidates for being elite racehorses and producers. We will perform the same assiduous analysis for over 1,000 horses in the Keeneland September sale. If you are buying, we can help you identify potential "diamonds in the rough." If you are selling, our GDT Reports and bio-mechanical analysis can help you present buyers with tangible proof of a well-bred, well-balanced, athletic individual.
Does the GDT Report really make it that easy to differentiate between yearlings?
YES. Here are examples of five favorable (consistently colored) GDT Reports and five unfavorable (inconsistently colored) GDT Reports for 1999 Keeneland July yearlings. The yearlings from the center to slightly left of center on the bell curve represent the most favorable racing and breeding prospects. These horses (represented by numbers 1-5 or colors yellow, green, light blue, blue, and red) are slightly smaller than the average population, but they are generally sounder than larger horses (represented by numbers 7-11 or colors pink, orange, gold, grey, and black on the bell curve), so in addition to making more starts, they also help promote the long-term viability of the thoroughbred breed.
