Bloodstock Agency / Sales Representation

At the sales, buying the highest priced horse does not necessarily mean getting the best horse. As we know, it takes many factors to come together in the making of a highly productive horse. Consequently, we focus on the needs of our particular clients. Be it yearlings, two-year-olds or breeding stock, the very first thing we look for is the bio-mechanics and overall balance of the horse. Unless previously measured, we take 15 precise measurements of its skeletal anatomy. Through our system of mathematical formulas, we analyze the bio-mechanics of the horse and determine the horse's potential as an athlete or a producer.

Through our system's evaluation we have been able to project a number of important things about an individual thoroughbred with an extremely high degree of accuracy. Such as...

  • Optimum weight as a 2, 3, or 4-year old racing horse.
  • Type of surface on which the horse can run best. E.g. European or American.
  • The class of the horse. E.g. if the horse is a GR SW, SW, Allowance, or Claimer.
  • What percentage it falls under within the overall population of thoroughbreds. E.g. top .5%, 3%, 6%, 12%, average, or below average.
  • Number of lifetime starts the horse is capable of making.

We also consider various other factors when buying a horse such as weight factor and soundness. We do a WEIGHT ANALYSIS of a horse to determine if the horse is overweight. Through our weight studies we have found even a yearling’s weight can significantly alter it’s racing performance.

Another way we are unique is by the significance we place on the soundness and well being of the horse, even taking into count the soundness of the sire and dam. Our soundness analysis answers questions such as how many starts the parents had, if there was an early breakdown, and if so, for what reason? Was the breakdown of a parent horse caused by a valid reason or merely a freak accident? Or does that horse have a family history of breaking down early?

A horse can have the ability to run fast and show super athletic abilities but it is important to know if the horse is durable and can sustain long term training. Will it be consistently effective throughout his or her long racing career?

Through our analysis of the bio-mechanics of the horse, we determine if the horse has a good point of gravity and the proper amount of leverage for its mass, both of which are needed for speed and durability. We can also project the number of starts a horse is capable of making. For example, we projected SKIP AWAY to make 40 starts and for his career he made 38 starts and retired sound.

During our 35+ years in business we have been a tool for some of the very best horse farms in the industry (please see our Clients' Success and Track Record pages). As we have learned through our experience buying an elite horse is a challenging proposition. It takes thorough preparation and knowledgeable people to get the best results. We provide these advantages for our customers. With our expertise and a little bit of luck on your side we aim to get the best horse which can ultimately prove its worth.

The result we are most proud of is our clients' satisfaction. They maintain that what we buy for them is as important as what we do not buy.
