Bio-Mechanics

Our bio-mechanical evaluations determine a horse's potential capabilities as an athlete or producer by taking fifteen precise measurements of its skeletal anatomy and comparing these measurements to the horses contained in our database.

Using custom-designed computer programs, we analyze the data, looking for ratios and proportions that resemble those of successful horses. The final analysis consists of an overall grade summarizing the horse's ability and several recommendations about how to maximize its performance. The horse's ranking can range from A+ to C (see Services - GRADE REPORT for more information). A horse possessing champion potential is identified as an A+ to A or an ELITE horse.

As the pie chart below illustrates, identifying the elite horse is the key to success in the thoroughbred business.

This Database is Unparalleled - Cecil Seaman & Co., LLC
has measured over 82,000 horses since 1969.

What type of racehorses are included in this database?
It includes 47 Kentucky Derby winners, 758 champions, and 646 millionaires. To name just a few, our database includes Shergar, Hail To Reason, Bold Ruler, Northern Dancer, Affirmed, and Cigar. The broad scope of our data enables us to accurately assess each new individual we measure in relation to our database. The bio-mechanical qualities requisite for a champion are so consistent, that 94% of the 758 champions in our database come from the top 12% of the horses we have measured.

What type of breeding stock is included in this database?
It includes more than 400 dams of champions and millionaires and the dispersals of history's most successful horse farms, including the Widener, Danada, Warner Jones, Tartan, Lasater, Bunker Hunt, and Newstead dispersals. Few (if any) of these horses have been measured by anyone else, and many are no longer available to measure.

What type of prospective racehorses are included in this database?
The database contains the measurements of 80% of the horses that have gone through the Keeneland summer sales since 1980. The Keeneland summer sale was the most prestigious sale in the world, featuring the leading pedigrees and the highest yearling average of any sale in the world.

How is this database maintained?
Cecil Seaman and Co., L.L.C. attends major sales and visits farms all over the world. Over 3,000 horses are added annually to the database.

What information is entered on each horse?
We take 15 key measurements that enable us to compare ratios and proportions of the subject horse to those of the successful horses in our database.

How is the data extracted?
Our customized computer programs produce a variety of reports that analyze many different aspects of a horse's bio-mechanic and genetic makeup and history.
